Nigeria has enormous natural gas resources, significant solar potential, hydroelectric resources, a large population and one of Africa's biggest markets. What it has lacked is a sustained national strategy capable of turning those resources into reliable electricity. Nigeria has significant electricity infrastructure that is not operating at its full potential. The first priority would be to understand why existing power plants, transmission lines and distribution infrastructure are underperforming—and address those bottlenecks. Before building everything new, make better use of what Nigeria already owns.
